LEARN HOW MUCH PAINTERS CHARGE WITHIN THE BRISBANE AREA.
.When trying to figure out how much does a painter charge, its important to not get hung up on the hour rate but rather what you will be receiving for your hard earn cash.
Painters can charge out at upwards of $60.00 + Gst per hour, keep in mind this is an established professional painting contractor that has insurances, overheads and so forth.
There is an issue when it comes to hourly rate amounts and its important to understand the trap :
Glenn bills $40 p/h and take 4 hours to do the work
Steve bills at $60 p/h and takes 2.5 hours to do the work
You see just because glenn is cheaper per hour it doesn’t make him cheaper overall! .
If a painter charges less than $40 an hour, the money they make at the end of the day is less than an employee is likely to make. As a client looking for the best deal, this may not seem to be your problem, but if you take the time to look a more closely, you will see how this will become your problem QUICK!
The painter that works for less but is slower will cost you more overall and in order for them to turn a profit they must drag out the job. When it comes to painting efficiency is the key.
Sure its fair to say that a not so skilled painter will charge less, this is due to inexperience as they would have learnt they cannot make a living at such as low rate and still pay for all their insurances, overheads etc.
How does an experienced painter calculate their hourly rate?
its quiet simple really however it will change for each and every painter as every painting business is different.
Hourly Pay = $35.00 – you will be hard pressed to employ a tradesman for less
Super = $3.50 – @ 10%
Workers Comp = $1.93 – roughly 5% of total earnings
Total = $40.43 p/h this is before any business overheads or insurances this is purely the labour cost
If business overhead sits @ 20% and the business wants to net around 10% the calculation would look something like this
Overhead = $12.13 – @ 30%
Net Profit = $10.51 – @ 20%
How Much Do Painters Charge = $63.07 P/h + Gst
As you can see, if a painter is charging anything less than $50.00 dollars an hour there may be dire financial concerns for the business. Yes a painter is paid around $40 per hour for their labour however its all the costs that a professional contractor bears which changes the dynamic. This is why inexperienced and “just starting out” painters seem to charge the least.
